I was expecting hordes of tourists from China and Korea when we arrived at the north slope of Changbaishan. While the mountain lookout wasn't completely empty, there were only a handful of Korean tourists and we really had a lot of time to take pictures without jostling the crowds. The weather was perfect for sightseeing, sunny and just a hint of a chill. Ferrari trained drivers raced up the precarious switchbacks and hairpin in our less than sporty transit mini-buses. We spent a few hours walking along the ridge and got some great views of the Tianchi Heavenly lake, the largest, highest and deepest volcanic lake in the world (I read that somewhere). Then, we made our way to the viewing of the Changbai Waterfall but had to climb a lot of stairs to get there.

Heading up the rugged trail. View looking from the side of our racing van.

Wheee!

The Changbai waterfall.
